The department of the Apple-brandy (14) is a department French of the area Basse-Normandie.

The legend wants that the rocks with broad of Arromanches-the-Baths took the name of the El Salvador (become Calvados with the wire of the linguistic deformations), ship of the Spanish Invincible Armada which would have been failed there. But this name would come rather from the two backs ( dorsa in Latin, rise), which with broad appeared bald people ( apple-brandy in Latin) because of weak vegetation, thus being used as reference mark to the sailors.
The Calvados belongs to the Région of Basse-Normandie. It is bordering on the departments of the the Eure in the east, the Orne in the south and the Manche in the west, while its northern side is consisted the coasts of the Manche.
