Appien
Appien of Alexandria (born towards 90 after J. - C. and died towards 160) is a Greek historian which lived at the 2nd century of our era. It became " Procurateur " in the imperial administration under Antonin the Piles (138-161). He is the author of a Roman Histoire which he divides according to the wars. He shows himself fascinated by the spectacle of unchained Roman political passions, by this scene perpetually changing on which ravel famous and consumed actors, in all kinds of roles: César daring, Pumped the crafty one, then disabled, Cicéron the conceited one, Clodius the impetuous one, Caton the virtuous one, Antoine the débrouillard, Lépide the awkward one… The destiny is played of all the heroes and reserves a great diversity of fine tragedies to them with which mix with the grotesque episodes.
From 66 to 44 before J. - C., the crises in Rome follow one another and worsen: conspiracy of Catilina, first triumvirate, where three " lords of the guerre" , Pumped, César and Crassus share the Roman State, confrontations of the armed bands with Clodius and Milon in the streets of Rome, then assembled competition between the two old comparses, César and Pompée. Lastly, in 49, the conflict between the two generals sets ablaze the entire Mediterranean world, and César must traverse it from one end to another to come to end from Pumped and its partisans. Hardly it established its capacity on Rome which its royal ambitions cause a republican start until in his/her own friends: he also falls under the blows from the murderers, who let themselves steal their victory by the césariens Antoine and Lépide. Octave appears, which soon will scramble the play…
