Catholicism
One speaks about appearance when a person states to have received, by grace of God, a revelation of supernatural origin. The person is put, by grace of God, in the presence of a person of the invisible world. The person of the invisible world can be Jesus, a Saint (Virgin Mary, etc), a Ange. One also speaks about dream or vision.
