Apostles (Berserk)

The Apôtres are a type of characters of the Manga Berserk.

At the base an Apostle is an human being to whom was given a Béhélit. They receive their supernatural capacities in exchange of a sacrifice: what they have moreover expensive in the world (their life, their parents, their friends…). Very human can thus become Apôtre thanks to the Béhélit, which allows in fact to call upon the God Hand and to carry out the ceremony of “birth” of the Apostle. During these ceremonies, “the candidate” Apostle is transported in a parallel world. After the sacrifice, the human one became apostle. They keep their human form but are equipped with capacities out of the commun run: capacities of regeneration, forces inhuman, very long lifespan if it is not infinite (nearly 300 years for Zodd, 100 for Wyald).

The Apostles are able to change to take the form which was allotted to them by God Hand. At the time of these transformations, they thus lose their human appearance to become true monsters, of generally gigantic size: giant snakes, dragons, monsters in several mouths and several eyes… It would seem that the older one Apostle is, plus its size is imposing, but it is debatable. The capacities and the transformations vary from one Apostle to another.

From their power and their monstrosity, the Apostles generally do not have any consideration for the human life and generally show themselves assoiffés of blood and of destruction, It would seem that the cannibalism enable them to maintain their power, but once again, it is debatable.

With his death, an Apostle joined the world of the hells where its individuality is destroyed not the flood of negative spirits which surrounds it. In the real-world, the corpse does not regain the original shape of the human one, thus when Wyald is killed, it does not remain any more but one corpse of old man.
