Apolonio de Carvalho

Apolonio de Carvalho is a Brazilian politician, former member of the international Brigades and French resistance.

Jorge Amado calls it hero of three fatherlands because of its fight in Spain, France, and with the Brésil.

Born in 1912 with Corumba, (Mato Grosso), he is initially officer then adheres to the Brazilian Communist party. The dictator Getulio Vargas imprisons it and in its release it takes part war of Spain against the general Franco. The defeat of the Spanish republicans the conduit in France and it begins in the maquis in the area of Toulouse. It takes part in the release of the south of France where it recontre its future wife, Renee Laugery, originating in Marseilles.

The president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva speaks about him like one of the greatest examples of bravery, courage and coherence of the Brazilian history .

He is deceased the September 23rd 2005.
