In the Egyptian iconography, the Pharaon S are distinguished from their subjects by attributes which are as many symbols of their function. The gods, holders original of the capacity, can also carry some of these badges. Most frequent are:
-
the Némès: striped foulard blanc of red with a side falling down on each side of the face and finishing in a " tresse" tied on the back;
- the Pschent or Double Crown ( Sekhemty , i.e. the Two Powerful ones): fitment of the crowns white and red, thus expressing the royalty on the High and the Low-Egypt (Double Country);
- the white crown ( Hedjet ): crown South (High-Egypt), also carried by the guardian gods of the South, mainly Horus and Nekhbet;
- the red Crown ( Decheret ): crown North (Low-Egypt), also carried by the goddess-cobra Ouadjet and the god Seth, the guardian gods of North;
- the Khépresh or “helmet of war”: crown convex blue, decorated with gilded pastilles;
- the Uræus: figuration of the Ouadjet goddess-cobra, which protects the king against his enemies, frequently represented drawn up on the face of the Double Crown and the némès, just as the Nekhbet goddess;
- the vulture: figuration of the Nekhbet goddess, the guardian goddess of High-Egypt;
- the false Barb: reserved to the Pharaon and to the anthropomorphic gods - bent at the gods, right-hand side in the Pharaon;
- the tail of bull: trophy attached to the belt of the Pharaon to get the power of the crowned animal to him;
- the stick (Sceptre Héka): sceptre whose higher end is bent, with the manner of a shepherd's crook, and who compares the Pharaon to a shepherd who leads his people;
- the flabellum (Nékhekh): the plague of Osiris, badge of authority as well as the Héka stick.
