The climate of the department of Indre is not homogeneous. The line " Châtre - Nickle silver-on-Hollow - Ingrandes " separate in North from the areas from altitude 80 to 200 m from " Séquanien" climate;. In the South the buttresses begin from the Massif Central of altitude 200 to 450 m of central climate.

The two climates are characterized by heights of precipitations and temperatures unequal.

The distribution of precipitations over the 12 months of the year is rather homogeneous as well in quantity as in frequency. The annual height of received water increases north towards the south; extreme north receives 500 to 600 mm, the Berrichonne Champagne and Northern Boischaut 600 to 700 mm, the area of Chateauroux - Holy-Severe - Chaillac 700 to 800 mm, finally the south of department 800 to 900 mm and even 900 to 1.000 mm towards Aigurande. Except in the South of the department, the winters are generally rather soft. The cold periods are fewer and shorter than in the North of the Loire, 10 to 14 snowfalls on average per annum of which 50% do not exceed 1 cm thickness, 49% between 1 and 9 cm, 1% between 10 and 19 cm; persistence on the ground seldom exceeds a week. These data are rather appreciably exceeded in the southern zone.

The annual number of days of frost is of 50 in the northern zone, 86 in the southern zone.

The amplitude of the annual variation of the average temperature of the air is of approximately 15°. The average temperature of January is of 3 with 4° (minimum means 0 with 1°, maximum means 6 with 7°). That of July is about 19 with 20° (minimum means 13 with 14°, maximum means 25 with 26°).

  • 30 to 45 days of fogs - especially from October to February.

Among other microclimatic characteristics, one can announce two areas of the department which present notable characteristics caused by the natural cover of the ground:

· Brenne has average temperatures lower by 1 than 2° with those of the zones which surround it. · In the east of the forest of Chateauroux, the area the Burning ones receives annual precipitations lower of 200 m/m than those observed in the center of this forest.
