Apex is a city located in the Comté of Wake, in North Carolina, with the the United States. It is suburbs of Raleigh. Its population was of 20.212 inhabitants to the census of 2000.

According to the Office of the census of the United States, the city has an total surface area of 27,5 km ², including 27,3 km ² of ground and 0,2 km ² of water levels, are 0,57% of the total. Apex is bordered by the towns of Cary to north, Raleigh in the east, and Holly Springs in the south.
History
The city was constituted in municipality in 1873.
The October 5th 2006, with roughly 22:30, the factory of chemicals EQ Industries , located in the city, explodes and releases a chlorine cloud. Approximately 17.000 people must be evacuated. Eighteen people, whose police officer and firemen, are slightly poisoned by toxic smoke. At present (October 7th 2006), the causes of the fire are still unknown.
Transport
The main roads are the Interstate 40, U.S. Road 1, U.S Route 64 and roads NC 55 and NC 751.
The important airport nearest is the International airport of Raleigh-Durham.
