Apartment

A apartment is a housing unit, comprising a certain number of parts and which occupies only part of a real , generally located in a Ville. An apartment can be occupied by its owner or a third person called tenant, act ratified in certain countries by the conclusion of a Contrat of lease which can differ according to whether the Logement is furnished or not.

Certain occupants are owners of their housing, either in Coopérative, in which the residents have shares of a company having the real estate, or in Copropriété, where each resident is owner of a privative part of the building, coupled to a quota of the common parts.

  • Flat is also used when the corner kitchen is separate.

  • Studio : apartment of only one principal part, with a corner cooks (kitchenette), a water room and 1 WC

  • F1: apartment of only one principal part, with separate kitchen.
  • T1, T2, T3… : The figure indicates how much there are principal parts, cooks and bathroom not included/understood. The studios and F1 are thus included consequently in the T1.
  • T1 (a), T2 (a), T3 (a)… : One of the parts can be separate in two quite distinct zones.

Names in Quebec

1 1/2, 2 1/2 3 1/2,…: the figure indicates the full number of parts, possibly including the kitchen, while the half one represents the bathroom. Generally, these terms are used for the apartments in hiring.

Condominium: more luxurious apartment reserved for those which want to be owner about it.

Loft: Can be rented or bought. Apartment which is characterized by its ventilated space since the majority of livable space is with open sky.
