Aomori

Aomori (青森市; Aomori-shi ) is a city Japan ease of the Préfecture of Aomori, located in the north of the principal island of Honshû. With industrial majority, the industry of the city rests on a very modern advanced technology industry being able to create trains, planes and infrastrucures of communications, answering thus at the height need for Japan.

Transport

A traditional railway line connects Aomori to Hakodate (Hokkaidô), via the tunnel of Seikan, longer underwater tunnel of world (53,85 km), dug under the strait of Tsugaru. This connection made it possible to reduce the sea traffic between the ports of Aomori and Hakodate, even if this one remains important, in particular in terms of freight.

Aomori is currently not served by Shinkansen, but a traditional railway line connects it to Hachinohe, terminus northern of the network of the trains at Japanese high speed.

History

The area of Aomori is occupied since the Period Jōmon. One finds besides there the ruins of Sannai Maruyama located at the south-west of the center town. One y' found buildings of wood what revolutionized Japanese archeology.

Before the Period Edo, Aomori was a small village of fishermen named Utō (善知鳥村, Utō-walled). In 1612, Yashichirō Moriyama increases the port of the city. It is at that time that the village took the name of Aomori. For the Edo period, the most important city D ela area was Hirosaki, the capital of the han of the Daimyo of the Clan Tsugaru. Aomori was used thus of local port and center of trade.

After the Meiji revolution and the abolition of the feudal system, Aomori was integrated into the Préfecture of Hirosaki. Following a fusion, the capital of the prefecture became Aomori (the prefecture changed name to be called prefecture of Aomori). Thanks to this statute, the city initially profited from the installation of the 5th regiment then of the 8th division of the Armée imperial Japanese woman.

The city having a hard climate was used for the drive of the Japanese soldiers in preparation for the Guerre Russo-Japanese woman. More than 200 soldiers died in exercise in the mountains close to the city (see: Mount Hakkoda)

In July 1945, the city was bombarded by the American forces.

Climate

The winter of the town of Aomori is characterized by the cold and snow. Aomori is one of the cities of Japan which receives the most snow each year. In 1981, one had recorded a height there of snow of 196 cm while Sapporo (more septentrional city however forever known height of snow higher than 164 cm). These snowfalls are due to the interaction of various winds to the top of the city.

In summer, the dominant winds are the east winds. The wind is fresh. The fog is very current there, this is why the flights with the airport of the city are often cancelled.

Events and centers of interests

The festival Nebuta of Aomori takes place each year of the August 2nd to the August 7th. The town of Aomori attracts the visitors thanks to the ruins of Sannai Maruyama , with its museums and its mountains (Mont Hakkoda) which are famous for the ski. One finds also Onsen S close to the city.
