Anxiolytique

Definition and families

The anxiolytic are Médicament S used against the commonly called Anxiété “distresses”.

Several families of drugs are used in this indication.

There exist various classes of anxiolytic molecules:

  • the Benzodiazepines and derived close relations (étifoxine)
  • Of anxiolytic various families: Antihistamine (hydroxyzine), carbamate (Méprobamate), buspirone, captodiame.
  • the Antidépresseurs used like anxiolytic (in the generalized anxiety, the FAKE or some Phobias)
  • the Neuroleptique S are sometimes used in this indication, but are heavier and their effectiveness is not shown.

Most current: benzodiazepines

Most usually used in France remain in 2006 the Benzodiazépine S. It acts of Médicament S producing of the fast effects of relief of the anxious, physical and psychic tension, but this effect is transitory and is accompanied by several disadvantages: sometimes excessive somnolence (thus accident risk conveys some especially), disorders of the memory, disorders of balance with risks of falls in the elderly, and phenomenon of progressive habituation handing down the judgment difficult after several months of use, being able to worsen the anxiety.

For these reasons, benzodiazepines should be taken only over short durations (a few weeks to the maximum) and with a medical accompaniment.

Each time the anxiety is durable and cannot be treated correctly by benzodiazepines (which do not have a " effect; basic " on anxious or depressive pathologies), it is preferable of research another solution: Psychotherapy, behavioral and cognitive therapy, relieving, Antidepressant S, etc
