Antonov

Antonov is a Research department S and of aeronautical engineering Ukrainian (Soviet in the past, in Russian: Авиационныйнаучно-техническийкомплексим. О.К.Антонова, shortened АНТКим. О.К.Антонова) founded in 1946 by Oleg Konstantinovitch Antonov.

Very prolix, with an extremely varied production, it is particularly illustrated in the field of the light Aviation. Its Year-2, produced since 1947 and still in service, had an important role in the development of agricultural space and opening-up.

Among the recent achievements one counts many heavy conveyers such as Antonov Year-124 and the heaviest plane in the world, Antonov Year-225 Mrya .

History

May 31st, 1946, a decree of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union decided the creation of the research department n° 153 close to the aeronautical factory of construction of Novossibirsk and named Oleg Konstantinovitch Antonov at its head. The same decree entrusted to this office the responsibility to design a plane with agricultural vocation which became later Antonov Year-2. In parallel, the sailplanes A-9 and A-10 were developed and built in minor amount.

During the summer 1952, the research department was transferred to Kiev. At the end of 1953, it accepted an order to develop and manufacture a Transport aircraft military bi- Turbopropulseur. The specialized personnel missing to conclude this task, of many former students of the aeronautical Institute of Kharkov and of the specialists in Kiev, Leningrad and Moscow were engaged as of the beginning of 1954. This made it possible to advance quickly and the first flight of Antonov Year-8 took place on February 11th, 1956.

During 30 years which followed, of many civil planes and military transfers the day, of which apparatuses intended to be implemented under extreme conditions like Antonov Year-74 designed to operate in the far North and Antonov Year-32 with mountain vocation. The built factories could claim to equalize the Western standards.

During years 1970, the research department was reorientated towards the construction of heavy transport aircraft. Ansi started in 1971 the design of Antonov Year-124 Ruslan , a long-distance Avion cargo liner which accomplished its first flight in 1982.

After the death of Oleg Antonov on April 4th, 1984, the research department was renamed Antonov in its honor. It is directed until today by its successor Piotr Vassiliévitch Balabouïev.

Little time after, it was seen entrusting the construction of a general-purpose transport aircraft intended to transport very heavy loads (up to 250 T) and cumbersome. In just 3 years, Antonov Year-225 was developed and carried out, achieving its first flight in December 1988. In the month of May 1989, it transported in multi-stage configuration the Space shuttle Bourane to Baïkonour and to next June, it was presented to the Paris airshow.

This aircraft at present constitutes the backbone of Division Transport of the company Avialini Antonova Antonov Airlines. This company had been founded in 1989 when the government had granted the authorization to accomplish international flights Charter S. It is currently de facto the Ukrainian national company.

Since the years 1990, the company builds also vehicles such as Tramway S flattened, Trolleybus and racing cycles.
