Antonio Squarcialupi
Antonio Squarcialupi (born the March 27th 1416, deceased the July 6th 1480) was a organist and Compositeur Italy N. It was one of the most famous organists of Italy of the 15th century.
Biography
It was born with Florence from a father butcher named Giovanni; however, it changed its name into Squarcialupi which was the name of a famous family in Toscane in the middle of the century, probably to hide its not very aristocratic origins. Most of its youth occurred to Florence where he studied the organ with the organist Giovanni Mazzuoli known as Johannes de Florentia , itself raises Francesco Landini), like with Matteo di Pagolo da Prato.
It obtained the load of organist to the vault Orsanmichele of Florence in 1431 which it left at the end of two years with the profit of the basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore where it remained until his death. A bust with its image honors it inside this basilica.
Music and influence
Squarcialupi belonged to the court of Laurent de Medicis and was also a colleague of Guillaume Dufay. Many praises with its art dating from the middle of the 15th century remain like that, for example, of the memorialist Luca Landucci which judges it equivalent, in stature with figures such as the sculptor Donatello. It was very close to Laurent the Splendid one as indicated on its epitaph inside the basilica florentine.
None of its works arrived to us. Its principal glory in the musical art, parallel to its celebrity of organist, is to have given its name to superb the Codex Squarcialupi, a document which was its property (but that it did not compile) and which is the richest source of Italian music of the 14th century.
