Antonio Salandra
Antonio Salandra (born with Troia the August 13rd 1853, died with Rome the December 9th 1931) is a Italian politician which was president of the council March 21st 1914 with the June 18th 1916.
Biography
Antonio Salandra makes studies of right and of literature to the Université of Naples, he teaches starting from 1879 the administrative and financial legislature with the Université of Rome and publishes many legal work. Preserving and Liberal, it is elected, in 1886, appointed Foggia. He becomes Prime Minister after the fall of the government of Giovanni Giolitti the March 29th 1914, chosen by Giolitti which chairs the majority the Parliament. Salandra is quickly detached from Giolitti on the question of the participation in the First World War. Whereas Giolitti is declared favorable to neutrality, Salandra and its Foreign Minister Sidney Sonnino support the intervention with dimensions Triple Alliance. With Rome, the May 3rd, Antonio Salandra denounces the Triplice, treated 1892 with the Austria-Hungary and the Germany, in order to prepare the entry in war of Italy. The Parliament, which was not consulted, rises and reverses the government. The king Victor-Emmanuel III, which is favorable to the intervention, points out Salandra and declares the war with the Austria-Hungary and the Germany.
Salandra thinks that the entry in war with dimensions of the Agreement will lead to a fast victory but in the facts nothing changes, and the first year of war of Italy is remembered per little success. Following an Austrian offensive which is successful on the Trentin, the June 18th 1916, Salandra is obliged to dislocate itself.
After the First World War, Salandra positions on the right and supports the access to the capacity of Benito Mussolini in 1922, it is besides present on the listone, list of the Parti national fascist and elected appointed at the time of the elections of the April 6th 1924.
