Antonio Pacinotti
Antonio Pacinotti is a Physicien Italy N, born with Pisa on June 7th 1841 and deceased in this city on May 22nd 1912.
Biography
Pacinotti passes its control to Pisa in 1861. He is the assistant of the Astronome Giovanni Battista Donati. Professor at the Technical Institute of Bologna in 1864, Physical professor of at the university of Cagliari in 1873. It returns to Pisa in 1881 to succeed his father on the pulpit of Physics and Technologie of the university. It directs its studies towards electrology and is devoted to measurements of the electric currents and the dynamic generators of electricity.
Work
It builds as of 1859 a prototype of machine with D.C. current with ring armature and radial collector whose operation improved very and is known under the name of Anneau of Pacinotti ". In 1865 Antonio Pacinotti publishes, in the n°19 review Nuovo Cimento , a communication on this ring turning in a magnetic field, which precedes the armature of the electric machines and of which it considers the use as well out of generators as out of engines.Zénobe Gram brings a certain number of improvements there and succeeds in building a model able to provide a D.C. current of a relatively important power for a use in the laboratories.
Anecdotes
- In July 1862, Pacinotti is one of the many discoverers independent of the comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle.
- It was honorary president of Italian Electrotechnical Association.
- It is named Senator of the Kingdom of Italy in 1905.
