Presentation

He presents to Madrid the November 13rd 1898, combatant as a recluse four novillos of the duke of Veragua. He takes the alternate in Seville the April 2nd 1899 with like godfather Antonio Fuentes, vis-a-vis bulls of the Ganadería of Otaolaurruchi; he confirms it with Madrid the May 11th 1899 with like godfather “Lagartijillo” and like witness Emilio Torres “Bombita”.

Many its contemporaries regarded it as one of largest of its time, although it was largely décrié by others. In fact, it had a very great knowledge of the bull and determined very quickly if its adversary allowed success. In the negative one, it renonçait to shine and was satisfied with estoquer the bull without sorrow nor glory. But in the affirmative, it showed all its talent and filled with enthusiasm its partisans. In a certain manner, it can be regarded as a precursor of Juan Belmonte: it let come to him the bull, then “the suerte charged” feet rivetted on the ground, thus giving a great relief to its master keys, as well with the hoods as with the Muleta. But it was very irregular, making a success of this “ faena ideal” only in an episodical way.

The January 13rd 1907, in the arenas of Mexico City, it was seriously wounded at the time of the Estocade by the bull “Matajacas” of the ganadería of Tepeyahualco. He died the 17 of the same month.

Its corpse was deposited in the Spanish Pantheon of Mexico City, on standby of its transfer to Spain. But a fire was declared and in fact thus ashes were transferred to Seville.
