Antoninus Liberalis

Antoninus Liberalis is a grammairien and mythographe of Greek expression .

Its life is almost entirely unknown for us. The tradition does of them one freed from the Antonins, and one thinks that he lived in second half of the 2nd century of the Christian era and at the beginning of the 3rd century, under the reign of Antonins then Sévère S.

Its principal work, the Metamorphoses ( Μεταμορφωσέων Συναγωγή / Metamorphôséôn Sunagôgế , towards 150 - 160), is of unquestionable literary interest because this collection of forty-and-a fables on the Greek Mythologie is often the only trace of older poetic works now disappeared. Antoninus states itself to take again the Ornithogonie Boïos, poet of the hellenistic Period.
