Antonine Mallet

Antonine Maillet (Bouctouche, May 10th, 1929 -) is a Romance cière and Canadian Dramaturge of origin Acadien. It is more known thanks to the success of its part Sagouine .

Biography

After the secondary school, it obtained its Baccalauréat in art of the Université of Moncton to the New Brunswick, followed by a Maîtrise in the same institution néo-brunswickoise. It then obtained its Doctorat in literature of the Université Laval in 1970. She taught the literature and the folklore at the Laval University, then in Montreal between 1971 and 1976. She then worked for Radio-Canada with Moncton, as a scenario writer and stimulating.

In 1976, it was made Officier of the Ordre of Canada and was promoted Compagnon in 1981. Mrs. Maillet received royal Société of Canada the Médaille Lorne Pierce in 1980. In 1985, it was made Officier of the Ordre of Arts and of the Letters of France and in 2005, it was established with the Order of New Brunswick. It is member of the private Conseil of the Queen for Canada.

In 1979, its work Pelagie-the-charette gained the Prix Goncourt, giving him the distinction to be the only nonEuropean personality with which will be decreed the price on this date. The same year, the town of Outremont, where Mrs. Maillet lives, has famous the street Wilder where she lives in Avenue Antonine Maillet , in order to honor the member elect with the Goncourt Price.

She is the author of many novels and plays very popular. Its novel Pelagie-the-Charette evokes the Grand Disturbance of 1755 (deportation of Acadian by the British). It is the history and the folklore of the Acadie which inspire it.

The Literary prize Antonine-Mallet-Acadie Life is a company which aims promoting the acadian literature and at recognizing the Acadian ones and Acadian which, by the quality of their work in the literary field, contributes to the radiation of Acadie in the world.

By this price, the insurance company Acadie Life affiliated with the Movement of the acadian popular cases, pays homage at the same time to the first large écrivaine Acadienne, but also to the acadian creators arts person. Evaluated by a jury, literary works selected are rewarded at the time of the opening of the acadian Festival of poetry.
