Antonin Magne

Antonin Magne , born the February 15th 1904 with Ytrac, dead the September 8th 1983 with Arcachon, is a runner cyclist French, known as Tonin-the-method . He made his classes in the Turn of France in 1927 in company of Andre Leducq. Its two victories in the Turn took a dramatic character due to its bad luck and its courage. In 1931, it gained magistralement with an exemplary obstinacy, in spite of its falls and the ceaseless attacks of Italian Pesanti and the Demuysère Belgian who left it exhausted. So much so that it did not take the departure of the Turn the following year. In 1934 it gained by showing its very big class after being saved with plusiers taken again by Rene Vietto, Georges Speicher and Roger Lapébie. He was the first winner of a stage individual against-the-watch in the Turn. He crowned his career by a great victory in the chanpionnat of the World on road in 1936 after having finished second of the Tour de France. Methodical and discrete serious runner it was considered and liked of the public.

It becomes after its personal career the sport director of Louison Bobet then of Raymond Poulidor.

He lived part of his life, with Livry-Gargan, in Seine-Saint-Denis. In 2004 (centenary of its birth), the Tour de France paid homage to him by making a stage in the city.
