Antonin Galipeault

Antonin Galipeault (August 7th 1879 with Maskinongé - May 12th 1971 with Quebec) was a politician, a lawyer and a Juge Québécois.

Biography

Antonin Galipeault studies with the seminar of Joliette and the Université Laval, then it enters the Barreau of Quebec in 1900.

He exerts his lawyer trade and works with Joseph-Napoleon Francoeur and Louis the St. Lawrence for then becoming president of the Société Saint-Jean-Baptist of Quebec. After a first attempt to be elected appointed provincial in 1904, he becomes city council man for the Ville of Quebec.

He is elected appointed of Bellechasse in 1909, then he is re-elected in 1912, 1916, 1919, 1923 and 1927. He in particular was President of the National Assembly of Quebec of 1916 with 1919 and public Minister for Labor under Louis-Alexandre Taschereau.

He leaves the political life in 1930 to become judge as a chief of the Cour of the bench of the king. When the Lieutenant-governor of Quebec is absent from 1950 with 1953, it must manage the Province of Quebec.

Having taken its retirement in 1963, it dies in Quebec the May 12th 1971. The Galipeault bridge with Large-Valley is named in its honor. It had received an honorary doctorate with the Université Laval in 1925.
