Anton Geesink

Anton Geesink , born the April 6th 1934 with Utrecht, is old a Judo ka Dutch, combatant in the category of the heavy trucks.

Biography

Anton Geesink takes part for the first time in the Championnats of Europe of judo in 1951. Money medal-holder this year, it removes the continental title the following year. At the time of the first championships of the world organized with Tokyo in 1956, the Netherlander obtains the bronze medal behind two Japanese combatants. Five years later, at the time of the third edition of the World with Paris, Geesink becomes the first it is the first judoka to beat Japanese at the time of the championships of the world. Causing a traumatism in the original country of the judo, of the categories of weight are introduced to counter European. In spite of that, in 1964, at the time of the Olympic first Games of Tokyo, although prevented, Japanese cannot prevent it from becoming Olympic champion of the supreme title of the all categories.

The former judoka becomes member of the International Olympic committee in 1987.
