Antoine of Bourbon

Antoine of Bourbon (15181562), wire of Charles, duke of Vendôme, and Francoise d' Alençon.
Paternal heritage: duke of Vendôme and of Bourbon (1537 - 1562)
By its marriage with Jeanne d' Albret: king de Navarre, count de Foix, of Bigorre, Armagnac and Périgord, Viscount of Béarn (1555 - 1562)

It carried initially the titles of count de Marle then of Beaumont, succeeded dead of his father (3/25/1537) and became duke of Vendôme then, with died of his father-in-law (5/25/1555), became, of the chief of his wife, king de Navarre.

He married with Moulins on October 20th 1548 Jeanne d' Albret, queen of Navarre and had:

  • Henri (15511553), duke of Beaumont
  • Henri IV, future king de France
  • Louis (15551557), count de Marles
  • Madeleine (15561556)
  • Catherine (15591604), duchess of Albret, countess of Armagnac and of Rodez, married to Henri II, duke of Lorraine

Of its mistress Louise of Béraudière of Rouhet, it had:

  • Charles of Bourbon (1554-1610), bishop of Comminges in 1569 then of Lectoure, archbishop of Rouen the 11/5/1594. There always remained faithful to his half-brother Henri IV.

Without true religious convictions, it changed several times of religion, between the Catholicisme and the Protestantisme. His/her younger brother Louis Ier de Bourbon, prince de Condé became the chief of the Protestant party then. He passed his life to guerroyer for the king of France. Catherine de Médicis, regent in the name of his son Charles IX, appointed it general lieutenant of the kingdom (1561). It left to besiege Rouen held by the Protestants and was mortally wounded on November 3rd 1562. He died a little later the 17, with the Andelys.

Ronsard, in the Anthems " ( Anthem of Henri II , v. 427), quotes it among the " Mars" who are with the service of Henri II.
