Biography

The parents of Antoine Spire came since from old French Jewish families established in Lorraine of the generations and perfectly integrated, republican and patriotic. A grandfather was made the narrator of the French revolution while writing: the revolutionary Newspaper of Abraham Whorl, account of the Parisian events for the Jewish community of Metz published in 1989 by the Verdier editions.

The father, philosophical regarding the Judaism as a yoke of rites and regulations antiquated, perhaps influenced by his friendship for Simone Weil and the frequentation of Gabriel Marcel, decided to convert with the Catholicisme to pass, said it, “ reign of the Law to the reign of the Love ”. It was at the end of the Thirties. The family, like so much of others, was caught up with by the storm, its members had to carry yellow star and some perished. For Antoine Spire, born after the war, the conversion of his/her father, whereas already persecutions went up, remains a painful mystery: it did not know, or could not, to pose the good questions on what seems to him now a disavowal. Perplexed, it probes this “ species of hole to be, of cultural vacuum ” which was bequeathed to him and to which it adapted a long time, in particular during its twelve years of militancy to the Communist party, before seeking what it could itself transmit to his children.

Antoine Spire was raises with HEC and obtained a control of sociology in 1968.

From 1985 to 1987, it occupied the function of cultural writer-in-chief to the Matin of Paris. During 23 years, he was journalist with France-Culture, where he has inter alia, produced and carried out the emissions “Voice of silence” and “Staccato passage”. In 2000, Antoine Spire was by name designated by Renaud Camus in his book the Countryside of France: newspaper (1994) like one of the too many Jews taking part in the emission " Panorama" of France Culture. It is suddenly “ felt pinned like a butterfly ”, located and challenged. From where the concern expressed by Antoine Spire, who reacts by writing the obsession of the origins . “ Since 1945, one did not dare any more to sort openly Jewish and not Jews, to count those which are it, those which are not to it ”. This business feeds a debate during a few months, generating some other books and press articles.

He was professor associated in communication with the University of technology with Compiegne with 2001 to 2004.

In 2006, deep dissensions with the Ligue of the Human rights make it leave this organization.
