Antoine Prost is a Historien French born in 1933 with Lons-the-Salt maker (the Jura).

Biography

Antoine Prost follows a traditional formation: National university of the street of Ulm and aggregation of history. It supports its thesis of State in 1975: War veterans and the French company (1914-1939) .

It begins as professor from college in Orleans, before becoming lecturer with the Sorbonne. University professor with Orleans (1966-1979) then with Paris-I since 1979, Antoine Prost is a historian of the French company at the XXe century through in particular the study of the social groups, the institutions and mentalities. Specialist in the questions of education, it collaborates on several occasions in the definition of the policies of education since 1964.

He also directed the Research center on the history of the social movements and the trade unionism, become the Center of social history of the XXe century. He is president of association the Social movement (which publishes the review of the same name) and of the Association of the friends of Maitron. In spite of his many activities with Paris, Antoine Prost wants to be “provincial resolutely”. He always resides at Orleans, city of which he was mayor-assistant.
