Antoine Plamondon

Antoine Plamondon (February 29th 1804 - September 4th 1895) was a Québécois painter.

Native of Old-Lorette the, close to Quebec, he is the son of a family of farmers. Its studies are financed by the lord Charles-Joseph Brassard Deschenaux.

He becomes the apprentice of the painter Joseph Légaré, and he proceeds to the restoration of works of Philippe-Jean-Louis Desjardins.

With his/her cousin, Plamondon leaves the Low-Canada in 1826 to go to Paris on recommendation Louis-Joseph Desjardins. He studies with Jean-Baptiste Guerin and returns to Canada after the Three Glorious.

Of return to the country, it becomes Copiste by imitating Transfiguration of Raphaël. He teaches with the painters Theophilus Hamel and François Matte. He receives a favorable criticism in the Canadian. Plamondon becomes collaborator with the newspaper of Quebec and the Canadian .

Plamondon has for admiror the journalist Joseph-Edouard Cauchon and as a rival Victor Ernette. In 1841, it creates an institute in the honor of Nicolas-Marie-Alexandre Vattemare. Its fabrics are damaged at the time of a fire in January 1845. Ruined, it must sell several of its tables.

In 1849, it must answer criticisms of Napoleon Aubin, writer of the Fantasque , which shows it to be too ambitious or too rigorous. It arranges definitively with Point-with-Tremble in 1851, where it has a ground of 134 arpents.

During the Years 1860, it undergoes the competition of the Photographie and receives orders of the Canadian Sénat. It is critical towards works of the new Italian painters during the Années 1870. He also writes in the Mail of Canada.

Its parish appreciates its large tables to which Plamondon makes gift. It ceases painting in 1885, ten years before its death in 1895.
