Antoine Lumière

Antoine Lumière , born with Ormoy (Haute-Saône) the March 31st 1840 and died in Paris in 1911, is a painter, Photographe and business man French.

Biography

He operated as travelling photographer with Porrentruy (Suisse) of 1868 with 1869, photographing with the locality “Pulling” the notable ones of the time, among which Alexina Kohler, wife of Xavier Kohler, the Choffat prefect, also mixing with community life with the city (he often sings patriotic songs with Inter). He resells his material with Enard de Delémont in 1869, when he leaves for Lyon where the great adventure of the Lumière family will start.

Domiciled initially with Besancon, this colourful, friendly character of Nadar of which it drew the famous red logo, is the father of Auguste and Louis Lumière, inventors of the Cinématographe, born in this city in 1862 and 1864. One can regard it as “the grandfather” of the cinema: with the autumn 1894, it is indeed him which is addressed to its two sons to require of them to be interested in these images animated on which Thomas Edison and some other pioneers butted then. This paternal incentive is the starting point of the adventure which leads to the invention of the “Cinematograph Light”. It is still Antoine Lumière who, in 1895, during the first public projection of the cinematograph, turns the crank in famous Indian Salon, Boulevard of the Nasturtiums in Paris. A tough legend, reported in particular by Albert Perronne at the end of its life, implies that “a first” projection of the cinematograph organized by Antoine Lumière took place with Porrentruy, in a barn where is today the Colisée cinema. If this anecdote were confirmed one day, it would push the books of history to re-examine their copies.

It begins its professional life as a photographer with Besancon then settles with Lyon in 1869.

It inspires with his two oldest sons, Auguste and Louis, the improvement of the dry photographic plate with money gelatino-bromide, then its industrialization in the factory of Montplaisir and its marketing under the mark “Labels blue”.

In the same way, it is him which inspires its sons for the invention of the Cinématographe, whose projection must with its opinion be done in public.
