Antoine Louis
Antoine Louis (February 13rd, 1723, Metz, May 20th, 1792, Paris) was a Médecin French.
He is baptized in the parish St Victor by a godfather Antoine Boyer main surgeon. He becomes doctor in right and doctor of medicine of faculties of Paris.
He embraces the career of his father who is its first Master. At the 21 years age, the weather already was several campaigns in the capacity as assistance, then of army surgeon of Regiment.
Its thesis Of vulneribus Capitis date of 1749, but it is not known if it passes it to the university of Market or Paris. Peyronie calls it. Named gaining control by contest, he does not get along with the Frères of Charity and turns over to the army of the Haut-Rhin, then returns to Paris.
He is there professor of Physiologie, surgeon of Salpêtrière (where he wanted to be buried), twice provost of the surgeons and twice crowned by the academy, of which he is associated member at 23 years (1746). He published a reformation of the subordination of the surgeons to the doctors (1748), a practical course of surgery on the wounds by Firearms (1746), taken a dominating share with the drafting of 3rd, 4th and the 5th volumes of the memories of the royal Académie of sciences, after having helped Morand to prepare the 2°. One it known as perfect academician, theorist, operator of second order, but the judgment is to be revised: J.L. Faure ensures that its operational handbook of the strangulated hernia locates its genius. A letter of Voltaire, exhumed in 1952, shows it enough bold to divide two nerves in a painful syndrome of the face, on the council of Tronchin, and to obtain the cure of the patient.
Master, it succeeded in 1785, to ensure the choice of Desault as surgeon of the Hôtel-Dieu; he had as pupils inter alia, Larrey, Percy, François-Emmanuel Fodéré, which published, on his authorities, his treaty of legal medicine. In Jacques the fatalist , Diderot rents it as surgeon of army; he has, moreover, summer, for him, one of the invaluable writers of the Encyclopédie : anatomist, it described the basin, the arteries carotids, the Cristallin, the clamp, the Parotide S, the obturating muscles; obstetrician, it studied the Césarienne and the Forceps; pathologist, given a description of the lupus of the nose; therapeutist, reduced the indications of the bleeding and stigmatizes his misdeeds; cultivate the history of the surgery which is, according to him: “The object able to captivate the application of a high heart”. One owes him the French translation of the De Morbis Venereis of J. Astruc; and, by its experiments on sheep, the machine of the Dr. Guillotin, which it modified, failed to be called Louison. The Académie of Medicine preserves its bust allotted to Houdon.
He was General inspector of the military hospitals of the Kingdom, perpetual secretary of the Academy of Medicine.
Its role of medical examiner was crucial in the Affaire Fixed.
