Antoine Gizenga

Antoine Gizenga , born the October 5th 1925 with Mushiko (Bandundu), is the Prime Minister of the Democratic republic of Congo.

Biography

Near to Patrice Lumumba, chief of the Left interdependent African, Gizenga were Deputy Prime Minister in 1960 and 1961 and Prime Minister for the rebellion in 1961. Its government with Stanleyville (Kisangani current) was recognized by 21 country of Africa, Asia, and Europe of the East in February 1961.

He was imprisoned with Bula-Mbemba of January 1962 at July 1964, he will be released after the members of the MNC/L with at their head Antoine Kiwewa require his release. Already, on September 25th, 1962, the Senate had defied Kasa-Vubu as a voter a resolution which required the immediate liberation of Antoine Gizenga. The same day, a joint demonstration MNC/L and PSA is organized for the release of Gizenga. The capacity reacts firmly: seven deputies lumumbists are shut down on September 29th. The setting on leave of the Parliament is applauded by all the press. It is the same reaction on the level of the important trade unions: UTC, FGTK, CSLC and frightening the General union of the Congolese students (UGEC), but who require also the extension of measurement to the government taxed with inefficient and of corrupted.

On the other hand, the political parties of the opposition lumumbist, majority to the Parliament, will unearth the hatchet. They meet from September 29th to October 3rd. They will create in Léopoldville the National council of release (CNL) on October 3rd. The CNL aims to be opposed to measurements taken on September 29th and to reverse the Gouvernement Adoula. The CNL, which will be at the base of the terrible rebellion mulelist, will conquer during the year the 1964 three-quarters of the country. And will be divided into two blocks: the MNL/Gbenye with Soumialot, Laurent-Desired Kabila; and the MNL/Bocheley with Gizenga, Pauline Lumumba, Pierre Mulele, Lubaya.

Hardly Gizenga left it its prison of Bula-Mbemba, created Palu on August 24th, 1964. This, in spite of the stubborn refusal of other leaders lumumbists, in fact, those of the MNC of which Antoine Kiwewa and Alexandre Mahamba. For the latter, only the congress of each party should scuttle the MNC and the PSA, in order to a recasting of a great party of the masses, such had been the wish of Patrice Lumumba.

He lived in exile of 1965 with 1992. He founds, lasting are exile, the Democratic forces for the release of Congo (FODELICO).

In 2006, it is presented to the Congolese presidential election of July, like candidate of PALU. Having obtained 13,06% of the votes to the first turn, it is third of the election and should be the referee of the second turn between Joseph Kabila and Jean-Pierre Bemba. It arrived at the head in its native province, the Bandundu.

On Saturday, September 30, it would have signed in Kinshasa an agreement of coalition which would aim at making elect president Joseph Kabila with the second turn of the presidential elections planned for on October 29th. The agreement would envisage also the attribution of the post of Prime Minister to a member of the Party Lumumbiste Unifié of Antoine Gizenga. However, of the close relations of Gizenga contradict even after the elections this kind of operations. December 30th, 2006, it is named Prime Minister by the president Joseph Kabila. It takes the head of the new government of the country the February 5th 2007, including/understanding 59 members.
