Antoine Courtois was a manufacturer of Musical instrument.

It created in 1803 the mark and the French factory of musical instruments of the family of the coppers which bears her name.

History

Courteous the founder created its first workshop in 1789 with Paris. Two instruments of him remained: a horn (Berlin) and a Bugle (currently to the Museum of the City of the Music (in Paris).

In 1803, with the death of the founder, various wire settled of which Antoine Courtois who created the mark. It took part in great technical research and acoustics which characterize this time and was the partner of confidence of many soloists of the Opéra of Paris, but it is obviously the army which was, as for many factors, the principal customer. It offers a Trombone to Antoine-Jean Simon (1807-1883), first prize winner, in 1838, lately open class of trombone of Dieppo.

In 1844, Antoine (Denis) Courteous son succeeded his father. Towards 1910, Mr. Legay created the trombone-tenor and low with rotary nut, equipping the instrument with new pedals. In 1917, the Courteous House is repurchased by Emmanuel Gaudet. During the two World wars, times will be very hard for Courtois. But, as of the end of the war, the establishments open the new ones. Since, the largest French soloists trust Antoine Courtois.

The company Courtois Paris is recognized like one of most prestigious manufactures of instruments coppers. It always stuck the collaboration of prestigious soloists. Today, she collaborates with musicians such as Gilles Millière (professor with CNSMD of Paris) and Michel Becquet (professor with CNSMD of Lyon). The company, always with the point of the innovation, remains the only one to manufacture a original Saxhorn.

January 4th 2006, Dresser Cramp, world leader of the professional Clarinet, repurchases the copper manufacture Courtois Paris.
