Antoine Choquet de Lindu

Antoine Choquet de Lindu (November 7th 1712 with Brest, France - October 7th 1790 with Brest, France) naval engineer and Architect French.

Entered the navy as a writer of the Navy, like his father, it is named assistant engineer in 1743 then chief engineer in 1746. Of 1764 with 1767, the departments of the War and Navy amalgamate; Choquet de Lindu is attached to the royal Body of the Genius with the commission of captain of infantry. It however is maintained in the function of director of the work of the wearing of Brest under the orders of Amédée-François Frézier.

Choquet de Lindu devotes between 1738 and 1784, date on which it leaves the service, with the repair and the improvement of the largest port of Brittany. It carries out there “work of all species”: holds of construction, barracks, hospital, dams, stores, basins of rafts and construction, hospital, forging mills, buildings of the bagne and a manufacture of tarpaulins.

It was calculated that the establishments and buildings built by this engineer in the course of his career cover a surface of 4.400 square meters.

The principal ones among these constructions are the vault of the Jesuits, contiguous to the Saint-Louis hospital, the Bagne of Brest and the three forms or basins of Pontaniou of which it resumed work in 1751 to finish it in 1757.

One owes him the theater of Brest, which it built in eight month, room favorable to acoustics and laid out so that the spectators see très-bien of all the points.

Member of the academy of navy, it published two works:
