Antoine Aymard

Antoine Even Aymard , (baron) and of France, (born the October 13rd 1773 with Lézignan - died the April 20th 1861 with Paris), is a general of Empire and a celebrity of the French Army .

A son Edouard Aymard, born with Villemoustaussou in the Aude in 1820 and died with Paris in 1880, major general in 1870 and Gouverneur of Paris in 1878.

Wars of the Revolution

Antoine Aymard between like volunteer, in 1792, in the 7th battalion of the Aude, affected with the 4 {{E}} regiment of infantry of line, where it is named Quartermaster-sergeant on February 15th, 1793. Napoleonean wars

After an action of most fatal, the 32e of line, though overflowed on its left side, drives out its position the enemy brigade and remains Master of the battle field. Following this brilliant business, the King Joseph gives to colonel Aymard a cross of honor enriched by diamonds, and prevents it that he had asked for the Emperor the authorization of name it ordering royal Ordre of Spain. The young colonel is also made baron d' Empire, with an equipment of 4.000 FR. of revenue, as of on July 20th, 1808, and ordering Legion of honor, on December 8th, after the Prise of Madrid.

November 4th, 1810, in the passing of Rio-Almangora, two battalions of the 32e of line ordered by colonel Aymard, and three regiments of cavalry under the orders of the general Milhaud collapse and put in a terrible rout the Spanish army of the Black general. The French seize part of enemy artillery and make more prisoners than they were not combatants.

Raised with the rank of brigadier general, on April 12th, 1813, the baron Aymard makes in this quality the countryside of 1813 in Saxony; August 6th of the same year, it is named with the command of the one of the brigades of the fourth division of the imperial Garde, with the head of which it is made main, the next on October 10th, of the procession in front of Naumbourg, in spite of the sharp resistance of the enemy.

It makes the countryside of 1814 in Belgium and deserves the confidence of Lazare Carnot, governor of Antwerp. With the head of 1.200 men of the young guard and a squadron of red lancers, with two parts of gun, it drives out the enemy of all the country ranging between the the Scheldt and the Polder S. the general Maison being carried on Ghent, makes leave Antwerp the Boguet division, to which belonged the Aymard brigade: the enemy is put in a complete rout at the combat of Courtrai, the very same day where the allies entered to Paris. When the Emperor abdicates, the Aymard general withdraws himself close to Carcassonne; but called with command of department of Herault, by decision royal of October 1st, 1814, it returns with Montpellier, where he is the day of the return of the Emperor, who names it with the command of the one of the brigades of 1a imperial guard, by decree of April 22nd, 1815.

The Aymard general is moving to join the army with the regiments which it had just organized, when it receives with Soissons the news of the Bataille of Waterloo. As of the re-entry of the Bourbons, he requests his retirement and withdraws himself in his hearths, at the 42 years age, after having made twenty-two campaigns and receipt four wounds.

Repression in Lyon

After the revolution of 1830, it orders successively the departments of the Rhone and Vaucluse, then is named lieutenant-general on September 30th, 1832. It orders the seventh military division at the time of the disorders of Lyon in 1830 and 1834. Perhaps it did not have, in these difficult circumstances, prudence and measurement necessary. The soldiers placed under its orders take party for the mutualists and refuse to obey their chiefs. As of this moment, the Aymard general endeavors to preserve the troops of any contact with the population. April 9th, the fight begins with more violence than ever; it is only after six days of carnage that force remains with the law .

The government believed duty to reward the sad victory for the Aymard general by the peerage and the cross of large Officer of the Legion of Honor.
