Antofagasta

Antofagasta is a city of the Chile.

It gave its name to the Province of Antofagasta and the Región de Antofagasta, of which it is the capital.

The city was founded by express order of the president Bolivia N Mariano Melgarejo Valencia the August 27th 1868. The October 2nd 1868, the name of Chimba is given to the city but a little later the president the exchange for Antofagasta . This city belongs to Chile since the February 14th 1879, following the occupation by the Chilean troops of the city. It was the launching of the Guerre of the Pacific.

The city does not have drinking water by the contribution of river. To provide for the needs for the city, water is sought directly since the Cordillère.

It is the large port of the north of the Chile by where share the major part of the extraction of Cuivre of the mine of Chuquicamata on the central plate.

Population: 318.779 hab. 2002 .

It is the town of birth of Conchita Cintrón, celebrates female Matador.
