Norton Antivirus is a Anti-virus software for the operating systems Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh and Linux published by the american company Symantec.

The software includes/understands 3 versions segmented according to the market:

• Antivirus Norton for the general public;
• Symantec Antivirus SMB for SME;
• Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition under initials SAVCE or SAV.

Antivirus protection only is not enough any more to effectively protect a computer directly connected on a public network Internet. A Parefeu ( Firewall ) and a detector/blocker ( IDS/IPS ) of intrusions are highly recommended for the computers directly exposed to Internet. Symantec diluted its antivirus solution with the following products:

• Norton Internet Security for the general public which proposes several optional modules, including one Antispam with formulas of yearly subscriptions.
• Symantec Customer Security for the companies, under the initials SCS, which integrate a Parefeu and a detector of intrusions ( IDS/IPS ) in supplement ( Personal FireWall )

Warning statement

The suppression partial of this software under Windows XP involves the blocking of the protected pages (sites of banks…) but also of MSN Messenger.
