Antiquarium (Residence of Munich)
The Antiquarium is a room Renaissance of vast dimensions in the Résidence of Munich.
The Residence was the castle with the downtown area of Munich of the Dukes, Princes-éléecteurs and Kings of Bavaria. The duke Albert V made there build a vast room to shelter his important collection of sculptures. He called upon the architcte course Wilhelm Egkl which worked on a project conceived by Jacopo Strada, of Mantoue. This room was built between 1568 and 1571 like a Antiquarium and was to be used for the presentation of the ancient sculptures of the collection.
With these 69 Mr. length, it acts of the more Renaisance big room in North of the Alps. The Barrel vault is hollow of 17 pairs of windows which ensure lighting. The decoration, completed about 1600 was carried out by various artists like Hans Thonauer, Alessandro Scalzi, called Padovano , and Antonio Maria Viviani.
During the Second world war, Antiquarium was destroyed mainly, but was rebuilt with the identical one. Today, one also uses it for receptions and concerts.
