Anthony Wilden
Anthony Wilden , (born the December 14th 1935 with London) collaborated with Jacques Lacan in the criticism of the writings of Freud from the point of view Linguistique and Sémiotique at the time when it made his Ph.D. in Romance studies with the Université Johns Hopkins of Baltimore, MANDELEVIUM. There, he worked with Rene Girard which worked out his theory of the mimetic Désir to face Sigmund Freud on the ground of the desire and Karl Marx on that of the value. After his Doctorate, Anthony Wilden taught with the the University of California with San Diego where he worked with Gregory Bateson with the development of the Cybernétique of the second generation from which the ecosystemic Approche will leave. After ten years of gestation its books the Théorie will leave the contexts which formalizes the ecosystemic approach which is a way of perceiving enigmas and to conceive means to approach them.
Intellectual activist with variable geometry, Anthony Wilden took the point of view of Sémiotique to approach very a large range of applications where any behavior is " signe" and value of communication has. Its work is mainly about the epistemology.

In the Western companies, the communication and the exchange is controlled by the capacity which holds part of the ecosystem biosocial to define some other parts like a “environment” to exploit: the Biosphere, other social classes, the other races, the Third world, “the second” sex - in other words, exploitation of (what we call) the “body” by (what we call) “the spirit”. Inspired by a prospect transdisciplinaire and anxious to approach in a nonconventional way of the discussed subjects, " System and Structure" has imposed itself for a few years in the Anglo-Saxon world like a main work in the study of the social, psychological reports/ratios and économiques" Thanks to this critical prospect and transdisciplinaire, the author produced a true amount of ecosystemic, which one can regard as a fundamental epistemological tool in the bet “to survive the 20th century”, according to the expression of Edgar Morin.

Biography: trajectories of life
In “The Rules are No Range. The Strategy off Communication”, pp. XI-XV, Routledge & Kegan Paul, London, New York, 1987, Anthony Wilden presented the history of its Anglo-Norman relationship and told its years of training through rules of life and action learned starting from the experiments from life.
Born with London in 1935, its first memories of child refer to the air raids where the first family mourning was “Rupert Bear” forgotten at the completely destroyed school the following day by the explosion of a bomb. This event is representative of the childhood of a man of the English middle-class which did not cease, in his professional work and its activism, fighting oppression and the exploitation while attacking the rules, the defects of the thought in epistemology.
Educated with the boarding school of the School “Christ Church Hospital” on a grant granted to the “deserving poor”, it left the school at the end them studies to immigrate in Canada in 1953 when it was established as a Colombia-British while marrying with Patricia and became father of two boys.
In Colombia-British, he exerted various trades, of logger with mechanic of cars and teacher which gave him concrete lessons, at the base of his professional work. Naturalized Canadian in 1959, he undertook higher learning by correspondence and on a grant in the United States. There, it obtained Ph.D in Romance letters in 1968 with the Université Johns Hopkins of Baltimore, MANDELEVIUM, where it worked with Rene Girard and Jacques Lacan. This collaboration with Jacques Lacan “The Language off the Self left: The Function off Speech and Language in Psyco-analysis”, 1968, which introduced Lacan into the Anglo-Saxon world.
With its Ph.D., it was named at the Department of Literature of the the University of California with San Diego where it collaborated with Gregory Bateson in the development of a ecosystemic Approche starting from the Cybernétique of the second generation, that of the psychic “sign” in contrast with the physical “signal” of the Information theory of Claude Shannon. In 71-72, one found it with the practical École of the high studies of Paris where he taught the “Théorie of the systems”. In 1972, left “Steps to year Ecology off Mind” Gegory Bateson and “System and Structure: Essays one Communication and Exchange” of Anthony Wilden, covering same subject starting from two different points of view, following “the binocular” vision expensive in Bateson, the “dialogical one” of Edgar Morin or the “biassociation” of Arthur Koestler.
After Paris, Wilden left to teach with the Togo and, in 73-74, it took part in the Université of Michigan to the project of the “US National Science Foundation” on the ecosystems. Of return to Canada in 1974, Anthony Wilden was appointed Professor in Communication with the Université Simon Fraser in Burnaby, as a Colombia-British where he taught until his retirement.
Anglo-Norman sources and by its studies, it is sufficiently bilingual English-French to input and translate Lacan in the Anglo-Saxon world and to present an imposing text seminal on the individualism of Montaigne. Much more than of the words, a translation is the passage of a type of think of another, of a Idéologie with another and an epistemology with another. In illustrative example, Gregory Bateson commented on this expression of Blaise Pascal " the heart has its reasons which the reason does not have pas" while saying: " Mr Pascal was to speak about the reason of the heart and the reason about the raison". In this way, Anthony Wilden always refused to write and teach in francophonie, by refuting the Cartesian diagram by the use of the language of Descartes. All would occur to fill a hole by a hole. Indeed, a language conveys its own epistemology, its own ideology and its clean Mythologie, in the relation of the chart to the territory, of the representation with what is represented. Thus, works of Wilden are known, appreciated and celebrated in many languages where they are translated, of Newfoundland to the Ground of Fire, the Alaska to the Australia, everywhere where the Anglo-American one became the erudite language in the place of German who was it, thanks to Mister Adolf Hitler and his/her colleagues. Even the Institut Pasteur publishes from now on into Anglo-American, with the costs of its own language of origin, to be read.

Anthony Wilden introduced Jacques Lacan into the Anglo-Saxon world with Freud, Signorelli and Lacan: the Repression off to mean (1966, American Imago, 23:332 - 66) and The Language off the Coil: the Function off Language off Psycho-analysis (John Hopkins University Near, Baltimore, 1968) like Speech and Language in psycho-analysis , appeared in 1968, réditée, re-examined, increased and commented on in 1981. The first chapter, of System and Structure. Tests on the communication and the exchange (Boreal Express train, Montreal, 1983) is entitled " Symbolic system, the Imaginary one and Reality. Lacan, Lévi-Strauss and Freud , following it Metaphor of displacement and Métonymie of condensation. The whole is an interpretation ecosystemic Sémiotique and .Anthony Wilden and Jacques Lacan collaborated in Psychanalyse in semiotic criticism and Linguistique of works of Freud, like Anthony Wilden and Gregory Bateson worked out the cybernetics of the second generation, that of the psychic sign where any behavior is message and whose communication is the social matrix of any human activity, in contrast with the Cybernétique of the first generation of the physical signal. From there, work of Wilden extended to the war and peace, like forms of communication, with oppression and the decolonization which includes/understands feminism. Starting from semiotics, Wilden approached the mediae to lead to the Philosophie of sciences and the Sociologie of sciences.
Among these French scouts, there is Edgar Morin and Michel Serres, of the “discoverers” or “trouveres”, in the language occitane, Trouvère is a word of old the Langue of oil, at the same time poets and scientists. Let us point out the title emblematic and programming science of one of the books of Michel Serres: the Passage of the North-West . The epistemological and methodological tests of Wilden, throughout its trajectory, does not cease blaming and redefining the borders between the knowledge which are dividing lines while contrasting, separating and connecting, the figure and the bottom of more broad and more deep Gestalt.
In multiple translations, its books on the communication and the exchange, of 1972 to 1983, lead to the theory of the contexts implemented in 1986 by Thanh Vuong ( Théorie of the contexts and international relations. Departure of the First War of Indo-China , in International studies, pp. 571-597, vol. XVII, No September 3rd, th and th 1986) and formalized in 1987 ( The Rules are No Range. The Strategy off Communication , pp. 303-322, 1987, Routledge & Kegan Paul, London and New York).
The series the Method of Edgar Morin seems to be built on the hierarchy of the levels of constraint, context and complexity of the theory of the contexts, the first level simplest and most fundamental (Grund said one before) inorgagnic nature mineral of the lithosphere ( Method 1. The nature of nature ) of the Lithosphere without which there would be no life on level following more complex of the Biosphère ( Method 2. Life of the life ). At the level following even more dependant and more complex is the Sociosphère of the association of congeneric, of those of the same species. At the level following even more dependant and more complex is the Noosphère of the culture generated by the social activities of the colleagues, of those which share the same law ( lex, legis ) and the same heritage (legacy). It is the " Knowledge of the connaissance" of Morin which was in California with beginning of the year 70 when Wilden taught in San Diego and worked with Bateson.
In 1972 are appeared Steps to year Ecology off Mind of Bateson and System and Structure of Wilden. Each one of these two books is a collection of articles published over one long period in various situations. To clear up certain darknesses and to cure the gaps, they respectively left Man and Nature in 1980 and The Rules are No Range in 1987. These two books cover a large range of fields, anthropology with the zoology.

The man

He also taught and gave conferences in Australia, in France, with the Mexico and the Togo to become professor in communications with the Université Simon Fraser in Colombia-British. Anecdotes
The School “Christ Church Hospital” is a caritative religious institution with a boarding school for 800 boys divided into 16 “houses”. It was founded at the 16th century under Tudor and one there taught of all, in the Fifties, to keep long-lived and thrives the British Empire which started “to break up. Anthony Wilden entered there to 10-11 years in 1946 with a grant. “There to enter, it is like being parachuted in hell”, writes (p. XI, 1987). It is physical and mental torture imposed by the large ones on small, the old ones with new in a strict hierarchy of rows where the principal concern is to survive. Simplicity is the reduction of the complex to simple by flatness of the levels of the Noosphère of the ideas of the culture to the Sociosphère of the association of the colleagues who share the same law (lex, legis) and the same heritage (leg). 4 - “the opposition generally implies a commutative relation between opposite terms or systems. The fundamental question is to know if they are “opposable”. At Newton, symmetrization and the opposition between active force and reactive force are suitable, since the two terms of comparable nature, on the same level of constraint, logical type, dependence or complexity. At Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the opposition between nature and culture are inappropriate by lab hierarchy of the levels of the logical type, constraint, dependence or complexity, since there would be no culture in absence of nature, biological life and inorganic mineral world. At Claude Lévi-Strauss, the opposition between “vintage” and “cooked” is unsuitable by the hierarchy of constraint or dependence, since there would be no food cooked in the absence of believed food. The relation is not an opposition.
The frequent epistemological error is the transformation of “contrasts” into opposites” which pass easily in “contradictions”. Contrast is the identity of different. The black and the white are in contrast in the reflection more-or-less large of the light and are not opposites, in the fine variation of the black to the white through the range of the gray.
The Chinese thought (cf Marcel Granet) plays with contrasts of the “Yin-Yang”, light and obscure, the heat and cold, the top and low, of the round and angular, without falling into simplicity from the “opposites”, “contradictions” and “oppositions” binary where peace is not a state of not-war, the masculinity of not-femininity, the cold of not-heat, the spirit of not-body and so on.
The intellectual and linguistic reflex is the expression “in opposition to…” to mean “in contrast with…”.

5 - Quantity and form, equality and identity, development and evolution. Any pupil knows that the " case of equality of the triangles" are not those of " similarity of the triangles". Indeed, of the equal triangles can have distinct forms and of the same triangles form can not be equal, i.e. they can have different quantities of surface. It is of banal observation to note the quantitative variation of the surface of the circle of the shock wave caused by the fall of an object in calm water. This circle grows in the propagation of the shock wave while preserving its form. The Chinese thought and the language clearly distinguish the form from the quantity, with the detriment of the latter. For them, the numbers are reports/ratios of quantities, proportions which evoke already an outline and an embryo of latent forms, as the triangle pythagorician 3,4,5 which is a right-angled triangle. Instead of seeking to measure effects and causes, they are ingénient to locate, recognize and index correspondences, complicities and " Convenances" - under the heading of the Label - between configurations, forms or structures. These isomorphic, homomorphic or polymorphic correspondences, these complicities and these suitabilities are in the arsenal of the Théorie of the general system. As the name is not the named thing, the form is not the quantity; they belong to distinct logical types. Simplicity is in this reduction of the form to the quantity and conduit with confusion while amalgamating one in another, the identity and the equality by flatness of the levels on the level of matter-energy. The equality refers to the quantity obtained by measurements and the identity relates to the form or configuration established by recognition and location starting from a structure.
In the socio-policies fields, this confusion leads the claims for more social justice and less exclusions and intolerances to stress the equality which leads to the acculturation and the loss of identity of the 2nd sex to the profit of 1st, of the third world at the profit of the premium world where the desires of the first consist in wishing the desires of the seconds, of dispossessed those of having where it is with the conjunction of the desires that the object of the desire is worked, in the mimetic Désir, to cut out in equal parts, but of different qualities. In the socio-economic fields, the reduction of qualities to the quantities leads to work out and adopt development models industrialist where premium a “effectiveness” which is a quantitative relationship between the entries and the exits of a process and between the costs and benefit on a “efficiency” which is a qualitative relationship between the various aspects of the costs and the benefit and especially between the needs and their satisfactions and where premium also the “maximum”, like absolute quantity obtenable, on a “optimum” which is a relationship between two quantities (thus already the beginning of a form) which are the “feasible one” and the “desirable one” under conditions given to one moment.
This reduction led to the ecological, economic and social tensions where the tension (Stress) is an overload which appears when the capacity of adaptation cannot any more answer adequately many requests, different and diversified coming at the same time from the mediums external and intern. The system does not lay out any more “flexibility” necessary by exhaustion of the reserves in solutions and “alternative” competences
Simplicity, by privileging the quantity with the costs of the form, leads to rather stress the development than on the evolution. “Development” and “evolution” belong to distinct logical types. The development is a quantitative variation inside the constancy of a structure, a configuration or a form, as the circle which increases on the surface of a calm water when one drops there something. The evolution refers to the Morphogenèse where the appearance of a new form, with the “transformation” in the passage of a form to another and the “Métamorphose” which is the change of a form in another.
In addition, the development is a continuous variation of the " type; analogique" in more-or-less same thing, like that in a tilted plan. The evolution proceeds by jumps, in quantum jumps, of the " type; digital" in discontinuity, like the steps of a staircase. The evolution belongs to the world of the forms, while the development is with that of the quantities.
Of confusion (while amalgamating one in another) in confusion (by taking one for the other), by flattening the levels of a hierarchy of constraint on the simplest level of matter-energy, simplicity leads directly to inappropriate or erroneous similarities. This simplicity, moreover, by the obsession of the matter-energy and the laws of the conservation, supports the play with null summation where the profit of is equal to the loss of the other. What confirms the ideology of the binary oppositions and the competition.

1 - in 1980 in the Canadian province of Quebec a referendum was held on autonomy of this province with the topic " Sovereignty-Association". What explained why " Canada imaginaire" , French translation of Yvan Simonis, was published in 1979, before the English original version published in 1980. This book is a denunciation of the Canadian colonial system of exploitation and oppression of its provinces. Heir to the English diagram of " to divide for régner" , the Canadian colonial system consists in handling the thought by obliterating and diverting the history in a way more subtle and more effective than the " Négationnisme " and the " Revisionism " of a direct confrontation of the frontal attack.
