History

The creation of this city would be the fact of certain Antonius Nepos. Only what exists in the Roman history is the consul fellow-member of Cicéron into 63 before JC: Caius Antonius Nepos, uncle of triumvir Marc Antoine and second wire of Marcus Antonius Orator.

Caius Antonius Nepos was condemned for misappropriation and was exiled in year 59 before JC. It finds refuge with Céphellenia according to some, and as a Gaulle for others. It would be then this site.

A poem of Sidonius Apollinaris (Sidoine Apollinaire) celebrates the vines of Anthon, about year 450 of our era.

The Lords of Anthon are unmemorable times holding them of this ground. No attribution of field is allotted to them under the empire (Charlemagne and following) nor by the successive kings. This leaves think that they are holders of their field of any seniority.

Guichard 1st is illustrated with the first crusade in the year 1096. Its distance killing Louis d' Anthon disappears in 1326, the field being allotted to his/her young sister who yields it to her aunt, marries of Hugues of Geneva.

It passes then to the Saluces. of Anthon have as weapons (blazon): " Mouths, dragon of gold with head humaine".

The family of Anthon survives a certain time through the branch junior by Varax which dies out with the XV° century. The descent of Louis d' Anthon is not known. Several branches of Anthon or Danton are claimed of him.

Let us note also the battle of Anthon: At this point in time the “Battle of Anthon took place”, on June 11th, 1430. Louis de Chalon, extremely of his impressive numerical superiority with his 4.000 men, advances in all peace with the help of the castle of Dovecote, of which he is unaware of rendering. He engages on the way of Anthon with Colombier which curves through wood, there or precisely the 1.600 combatants from the Dauphine and allied are in ambush in the coppices, close to the village of Janneyrias.

The column orangist, stretched in the narrow way, is abruptly surprised of all shares. The powerful cavalry orangist is taken with the trap. Soon, it is the general confusion and saves it which can in direction of Anthon. The runaways give up weapons and luggage and are run away through wood. More than 200 men drown while trying to cross the tumultuous Rhone. Thus the “Battle of Anthon was completed”. The Dauphine one was saved.
