Anthémis of the dyers

The anthémis of the dyers ( Anthemis tinctoria ) is a long-lived herbaceous plant of the family of the Astéracées. It flowers in summer at low altitude in the majority of the countries of Western Europe, except for the Mediterranean regions.

Description

It is a plant of intermediate size, with often ramified stem, green bipennatilobées sheets with reverse blanchâtre and hairy. The flowerheads yellow are gilded. As for all the anthémis, the peripheral florets, ligulas, are female, while the florets of the disc are hermaphrodites.

Use

One formerly extracted from this plant a yellow dyeing, which explains the name given to the species. Other vernacular names used sometimes: camomile of the dyers, dimensioned dyers.
