Antabuse effect
The effect antabuse is characterized by different Symptôme S: flush, puffed out vasomotrice, Vasodilatation, cephalgia (pulsatile), nausea, vomiting, Tachycardia, Dyspnea, hypersudation, giddiness, dizzy spell, vision fuzzy, Malayan, Lipothymie, modification of the electrocardiogram, thoracic pain, mental confusion.
It is caused by the concomitant absorption of alcohol and certain medicamentous substances, in particular the disulfirame. The presence of this substance in certain products of everyday usage (after-shave lotions, gel with the tar, shampoo containing of beer, solution for contact lenses containing of polyvinyl alcohol) can also cause this undesirable effect.
The consumption of certain species of Coprin S can also cause the antabuse effect.
This effect can however be required within the framework of the treatment of chronic alcoholism in order to associate a feeling of dislike with the absorption of alcohol.
The substance causing the antabuse effect acts on the liver to prevent the conversion of the acetic ethanol into Acid by the Acétaldéhyde déshydrogénase.
