Ansonica

The ansonica is a Italian Cépage of white grapes.

Origin and geographical distribution

It comes from the south of the Italy. It is very cultivated on the isle of Elba.

In Sicily, it is classified recommended in province of Agrigente, of Catane, Enna, Messine, Palermo, Syracuse and Trapani.

In Tuscany, the ansonica is classified recommended in province of Grosseto and Leghorn and it is authorized in province of Lucques.

In 1990, it covered in Italy 12.700 ha.

It is classified auxiliary type of vine in DOC. Ansonica Costa dell' Argentario, Bivongi bianco, Contea di Sclafani Ansonica, Contea di Sclafani bianco, Contessa Entellina Ansonica, Contessa Entellina Ansonica vendemmia tardiva, Contessa Entellina bianco, Delia Nivolelli Inzolia, Elba Ansonica, Menfi Feudo dei Fiori, Menfi Ansonica, Menfi bianco, Sambuca di Sicilia bianco, Santa Margherita di Belice Ansonica, Santa Margherita di Belice bianco and Sciacca Inzolia.

There would exist still some plantations in Tunisia
