Ansignan
Ansignan is a common French, located in the department of the the Eastern Pyrenees and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants is called Ansignanais.
Geography
Located in the area of the Fenouillèdes (there is no fault, that is written in the plural but decides in the singular) , in 50km in the west of Perpignan, Ansignan is defined as being the " Center of Fenouillèdes" , because located at the center of the three cantons which compose this area: Saint-Paul-with-Fenouillet, Sournia and Latour-of-France.
The village is located on a hill, dominating the valley of the Agly. The Désix, come from Sournia, in is an affluent. It is with the confluence of these two rivers that is born the Stopping on Agly from Caramany.

- Estagel while following D9 which crosses Latour-of-France, Planèzes and Rasiguères

History

the name which one knows today appears at the 18th century. 14th siècleème at the 18th century, some rare texts announce the forms Aussinhano , Aussinham or Aussinhac . But the first mention of the commune, in 1012, speaks about " villa ansiniano ". This name probably comes from a field Gallo-Roman whose owner could be certain a " ansinius " or " ansinianus ".
- the presence of the aqueduct bridge, dated from the medium of IIIe century a. J.C. (220-270), allows to suppose a Roman presence. Moreover, in 1960, a wine grower of common found a datable silver sum of money of 46 before our era.
- the pre-Romance church, located at the locality " Moulin" (close to the confluence of the Agly and the Désix), mark the old site of the village. Its construction dates from the neighborhoods of the 9th century or the 10th century. It is dedicated to Saint-Nazaire and Saint-Celse. The inhabitants moved on the hill, to a few hundred meters, to avoid seems it the repeated risings of the close river. A Romance strengthened door, mark of an old fortification, locates the birth of the new village around the 13th century.
- Of the 14th century until the Revolution, the family of the Fish pond has the major part of the territory. After Antoine of the Fish pond, Pierre of the Fish pond is lord of Ansignan in 1503. Then in 1750, it is with the turn of Sieur de Roquefort of the Fish pond, senior of the chapter of Saint-Paul-with-Fenouillet.

Demography
The common one knew one surprising demographic stability since the French revolution.First half of the 19th century is marked by an increase of the population, with a maximum of 317 inhabitants in 1831. In 1901, the village counts 300 more hearts. Essentially inhabitants, the work of the ground is the main activity.
The 20th century sees a slow demographic decline. One counts nothing any more but 225 inhabitants in 1962, to approach the 200 inhabitants today. But the commune did not know the decline " catastrophique" reached by the other communes of the Fenouillèdes.
