Anselme (bishop of Varmie)

Anselme (in Polish Anzelm , in German Anselm von Meißen ) is a bishop of Varmie deceased to Elbląg in 1278.
Belonging to the teutonic Order, Anselme becomes the first bishop of Varmie in 1250. In 1248, Heinrich von Strittberg had refused this function. Anselme is crowned Valencian bishop the August 28th 1250 with . It works to organize its Diocèse, to trace its borders like those of the properties of the évêché. It starts the construction of a Cathédrale and a residence for the bishops with Braniewo. In 1260, it founds the Chapitre cathédral and the first Paroisse of the new diocese.
In parallel, its activity missionary is very intense.
In 1262, the Pape Urbain IV names it Légat for the Tchéquie, the Moravie and the Archevêché S of Rīga, Gniezno and Salzburg. This new responsibility obliges it with much travelling.
Following the attacks of the Prussian , it takes refuge in Elbląg where it spends the last years of its life.
