Anould
Anould is a common French, located in the department of the the Vosges and the area Lorraine.
Its inhabitants is called Aulnois.
Geography
It is located in the valley of the Meurthe at 12 km upstream of the Saint-Dié-of-Vosges, at 16 km of Gérardmer by the Col of the Ceiling (621 m) and at 43 km of Colmar by the collar of the Catch (949 m). The altitude of the commune culminates with 933 meters with the Rock of the Fairies.The majority of the population concentrates along the main roads of circulation, but many variations are counted: Chalgoutte, the Chain, Déveline, Gerhaudel, Drops, Barns, Hardalle, the High Fountain, Anoux, Mangoutte, the Pair, Raingoutte, the Stock and Vanchère.
History
The origin of the name of Anould has two versions:- Anould draws its name from Latin anoldium , “with the nodes” , because of crossroads bordered of shrubs which united the vault with the hamlets;
- Anould comes from the old Latin word alnus meaning Aulne or ell. The place would have been planted alders, as Fraize ( fraxinus in Latin) would be the place where ashes are, Saulcy (of Latin salix ) the place where willows push.
The church, the town hall and the school complex were destroyed by the Germans in 1944. The paper mills of the Stock, among most important of the Vosges, were destroyed. The common one suffered considerably: on the 551 houses which it counted pre-war period, the Germans destroyed 490 of them, by fire or dynamite, from November 15th to 18th 1944. The number of disaster victims was of 1725. Anould is titular Military Cross 1939-1945.

- By this blazon, the commune of Anould wanted to symbolize the mountains which surround it, with the galleries of mines and the Faucon in the sky, the meadows by the Colchique S gilded with the sun, the Sapin S of the Vosgean forests and the Truite S of the torrents.
