Annie Montague Alexander is an American at the origin of the Museum off Vertebrate Zoology of the the University of California (Berkeley), born in 1867 with Honolulu and died in 1950.

She grows in the plantation of family cane with sugar with Maui. In 1882, its family settles with Oakland (California) where it makes her secondary studies. His/her father, Samuel T. Alexander, was impassioned by the Natural history and travelled much accompanied by his daughter. Thus Annie Alexander travels in Europe, with HongKong, in China, with Java, in the islands Samoa, with the Marquises, in New Zealand and Africa. She had constituted a beginning of collection of various specimens of which Fossile S. She meets in 1905 Clinton Hart Merriam (1855-1942), mammologist and director of the department of biological research to Washington. She subjects her idea to him to base a large natural history museum on the west coast. Merriam encourages it and advises to him to go in Alaska to collect Ours there.

In 1907, it meets Joseph Grinnell (1877-1939), which teaches at the polytechnic institute Throop of Pasadena. She is impressed by Grinnell and admires the order of her collections. In 1907, it leaves for Alaska where it gathers a large collection of Oiseau X and of Mammifère S. It will constitute the embryo of the collection of the Natural history museum of zoology of the vertebrate ones. The project advances quickly and Grinnell is engaged as director in 1908.

Alexander will continue all its life to support the activity of the natural history museum, financially but also while taking part in the activity of the institution. At his death, one estimates that it and her partner of voyage, Louise Kellogg, are at the origin of: 22000 specimens of Mammalian S, Bird X, Reptile S and Amphibian S.
