Annemarie Huber-Hotz , born the August 16th 1948, is Chancelière of the Swiss Confederation starting from December 15th, 1999. It is member of the radical-democratic Parti (PRD).

Community activity

  • 1976-77 (Office of the town and country planning of the canton of Zoug): temporary collaboration within the framework of projects of town and country planning

  • 1978-81 : At the instigation of his/her uncle, the to advise in the States Othmar Andermatt, it becomes collaborator of the secretary-general of the federal Assemblée, in charge of the service of information in particular of the information of the parliamentary correspondents, secretary of commissions (in particular of the commissions of drafting of the legislative acts), planning of the sessions and management of the Council Secretariat of the States starting from 1981. It carries the title of secretary-general assistant of the services of the Parliament.

  • 1989-99 : Direction of the scientific services of the federal Parliament (Commission departments and power station of documentation, including the service of the official Bulletin of the deliberations)

  • 1992-99 : Secretary-general of the federal Parliament. She presents a report/ratio on the reform of the Parliament in the world in front of the Association of the secretary-generals of Parliaments.

Chancellor of the Confederation

Annemarie Huber-Hotz is elected the December 15th 1999 with the 4th turn as a chancellor of the Confederation by the federal Parliament. She overrides the vice-chancellor Achille Casanova (Parti Christian-Democrat, PDC). She takes up her duties on January 1st 2000. As a Chancellor, it takes part in the meetings of the Federal council, it has a right of proposal but not vote.

The Chancellor does not have the same function as in Germany or Austria. It defends the files concerned with the Chancellery before the Parliament. It is to some extent a responsibility for secretary-general of the government, with horse on the policy and the important administration.

Re-elected in 2003, Annemarie Huber-Hotz is confronted with the new situation due to the political change of composition of the Federal council which includes/understands as of on January 1st 2004, 2 UDC instead of 2 PDC.

Under its direction, Switzerland directs itself towards the E-voting generalized after several successful tests.
