Anne de Gaulle

Anne de Gaulle was the girl of the general Charles de Gaulle and his wife Yvonne. She was born on January 1st 1928 with Trier (Germany) where his/her father was on mission.

Anne de Gaulle being mental handicapped person (it was carrying a trisomy 21), the de Gaulle husbands never separated from it until its death. The members of the Family de Gaulle and their close relations testified that the general de Gaulle, considered to have a love retained with its family, was shown more cordial and extraverti with Anne.

In October 1945, Yvonne de Gaulle bought the Château of Green-Heart to Milon-the-Vault (Yvelines), where it installed a private hospital for stripped handicapped young girls: the Foundation Anne de Gaulle.

Anne died the February 6th 1948 of a broncho-pneumonia with Colombey-the-Two-Churches. His/her father had this moving sentence, which its Faith and its Hope Christian women explained: “Now, it is like the different ones”.

Thereafter, the August 22nd 1962, Charles de Gaulle is victim of an attack missed at the Petit-Clamart. He told that a ball had been stopped by the framework of the photograph of Anne whom he always had with him in a case, placed this day on the back beach of the car. In 1970, it was buried in the cemetery of Colombey beside his/her daughter.
