Ann Veneman

Ann Margaret Veneman (born the June 29th 1949) is an American political woman, affiliated with the Republican party, 27e secretary with the Agriculture of the United States of 2001 with 2005 under the first mandate of George W. Bush and executive director of UNICEF since May 2005.

Family and studies

Ann Veneman was high in Modesto, California. His/her father, John Veneman was under-secretary with Health, Education and the Social protection and member of the Parliament of California.

She is also a cousin of the scenario writer and realizer George Lucas.

She is graduate political sciences and of right of the the University of California.

Career

Of 1986 with 1989, Ann Veneman is administrator within the foreign service of the department of the Agriculture of the United States where it takes part in the negotiations on the agreements of GATT.

Of 1989 with 1991, it is under-secretary associated with Agriculture for the international businesses in the government of George H.W. Bush.

Of 1991 with 1993, it is assistant secretary with Agriculture.

In 1993, it joined the group Patton, Boggs & Blow as well as the direction of Calgene, the largest fruit producer and vegetables and the first company to market genetically modified food.

In 1995, Veneman is named secretary with the Agriculture of the State of California.

Of 1999 with 2001, it is lawyer specialized in the food problems.

The 27e secretary with Agriculture (2001-2005)

The January 20th 2001, new president George W. Bush calls it with the government as a secretary with Agriculture . It will have to deal with problems of mad cows, trade barriers against genetically modified food and exports. Food big industry will be very grateful for him for its action contrary to the movements ecologists or of the small farmers, in particular because of its management of the crisis of the mad cows coming from the Canada or of its dealings with the great food groups.

In November 2004, after the re-election of George W. Bush, it announces her resignation of the government.

Managing director of the UNICEF (2005-current)

In January 2005, Kofi Annan, the general secretary of UNO names it at the general position of director of the Funds of the United Nations for childhood (UNICEF). It takes up duty to this station in May 2005.
