Anjoutey

The commune of Anjoutey forms part since 1984 Canton of Rougemont-the-Castle in the department of the Territoire of Belfort. Previously it was attached to the Canton of Giromagny. Its surface is of 769 ha and the average altitude of the village east of 390 meters.

The village, which counted 592 inhabitants in 1999, is located on the small called torrent-like river the Madeleine who goes down directly from the solid mass of the the Vosges of the South. In 1234, Thierry, lord of Rougemont, fact gift of a property located with Anjoutey with the priory of Saint Nicolas's Day located close to Rougemont. The village was then under the jurisdiction of the lieutenant of Rosemont. Towards 1332 the field of the Rosemont was attached to the County of Ferrette which remained possession of the Habsbourg until the Guerre Thirty Year old. The farm of the Charm , a variation of Anjoutey, existed already at the 16th century. The village belonged to the parish of Etueffont until in 1775, date of the construction of the current church, placed under the patronage of Saint-Vendelin. Borough-under-Châtelet and the small village of Lamadeleine-Valley-of-Angels was then attached to this new parish. A long time agricultural, Anjoutey saw to settle at the 19th century of small industries which benefitted from the hydraulic driving force of the river: a mill with tan transformed the barks of oak collected by the inhabitants into a powder intended for the tanning of leathers. Towards 1855 mechanical weaving and the various workshops of weaving to arm occupied more than two hundred people. In 1932 a serious fire put an end to this activity. With the autumn 1913 was inaugurated the railway line Belfort-Etueffont which crossed the village. Its exploitation will last 35 years, until July 1948.
Currently Anjoutey is especially a residential village which preserves a reduced agricultural activity. Two small artisanal zones were arranged during the two last decades.
