Animation 3D

Animation 3D is a digital technique of animation are equivalent to animation in volume in a virtual world. Animations 3D are complex artistic works of which depend the control on multiple processes. The illusion is worked around the creation of a universe and characters at the same time surprising and of an almost palpable reality. Behind the power of the computers and software, the formidable human genius with license to reach has a dream: to give the life has a technological matter rather abstracted at the beginning and has to set up stories without limitation for imagination, this is why to limit the Universe of the 3D has a simplistic vision would be an error. The evolution of digital technologies of the image revolutionized the sectors of entertainment and the spectacle. Animation, video games, cinema, publicity… the synthesized images 3D invade our visual daily newspaper. The production of cinema of animation has known for a few years a considerable progression thus causing the quasi-disappearance of traditional animation breaking the hegemony of the Disney Studios then in the field of the cinema general public: the cartoon films are found under fires of the slope (Toy Story in 1996, Shrek 1 in 2001, Monstres and Co in 2002, Nemo in 2003,…).

Technique

In the majority of the cases, the objects and characters are built according to models with three dimensions (one defines volumes with a texture of surface), and data-processing Algorithmes treat these models to generate the image by simulating an incidental light (effect of the sun, of a lamp…) and by treating the various effects (in particular shades and reflections). Volumes, the landscapes, the characters, all is built starting from polygons. A good organizer 3D can starting from a simple cube build surprisingly complex forms. It work then colorimetry, and of course lighting is not done automatically, it is a question as well as possible of placing it for one made plausible, or of the effects on volumes and the general atmosphere of the scene.

Capture movements

The capture of movements (“Motion captures” in English) consists in placing sensors on the body of actors, with the articulations for example. Each sensor sends its coordinates to a computer. When the actor plays, the positions of the sensors are recorded in three dimensions. These data can then be inserted in a software of creation of synthesized images.

Software for animation 3D

Massive

Massive is a software which is used to simulate crowd. Using some basic characters, who each one have specific movements, one simply creates the illusion of a realistic crowd in “posing” the number desired on a plan. Those are programmed beforehand to adopt such or such attitude (such or such movement) according to the situation: for example, if they are supposed outward journey up to such point, they will go or will run towards this one, slowing down if they ridge against somebody in front of them, circumventing it, or stopping to fight an enemy (i.e. a certain type of character) in way if they meet one of them. This effect is compatible with that of the capture of movements for a better effect. Massive was in particular used in the Lord of the Rings: The Two Turns and the Return of the King.

Blender

Blender is a software of modeling 3D developed at the beginning by the company NeoGeo and now offered to the community of the graphic designers. This software is a complete continuation making it possible to carry out images and animations of synthesis. its interface, stable and modern, gathers numerical models (nurbs, béziers, b-spline…), of animation and of returned (standard scandine, shades by shadow-map, system of copies and particles, made panoramic and possible field,…) of great quality. Blender is able all to animate, of textures to the grids while passing by the lamps and their parameters. Like very good software 3D, Blender is able to safeguard all your work in only one file, and the possibility offers to you of reaching it in the form of bookstores. Moreover, it can import and export other types of files (import/export DXF, import/export AVI and AVI RAW,…). In spite of its first accesses, Blender attracts computer graphics experts more and more and became one of the software more nowadays consulted.

The majority of the effects are carried out on the software Maya, and them texture are worked amongst other things in Photoshop, but one also uses DIGITAL Fusion.
