Animate video music
AMV (initials for English animate music video , meaning “video clip of animates”) are the video works carried out starting from extracts of Anime (and, to a lesser extent, of Cartoon in the broad sense). The band of a AMV is generally a music without relationship with the world of animation. The video part is made up of sequences extracted from a cartoon and assembled in synchronization with the music in order to produce the equivalent of a video clip traditional. The creation of AMV ( AMV-making in the jargon) is art to combine animates it and the music.
The duration of a AMV generally lies between 2 and 7 minutes, that is to say the traditional duration of a musical track.
The creation of AMV is a discipline practiced mainly in North America, Europe and Russia. The Japanese are devoted to a similar practice, the MAD, whose spirit is however more parodic and the broader definition, the MAD not being necessarily related to animate.
Realization
If the first AMV were carried out by video assembly Analogique, generally using several Magnétoscope S, they all are today executed on computer with Logiciel S of video assembly. The processes described below apply to this last case.
The realization of a AMV is an at the same time technical and artistic task. One can break up it chronologically as follows:
-
Birth of the idea:
- *concept general, original idea,
- *choix of the music (or more rarely of the musics),
- *choix of the drawing (S) animated (S).
- Preparation and selection of the sources:
- *acquisition of the music on the hard drive,
- *éventuellement, analyzes preliminary music (rate/rhythm, key periods, instruments…),
- *présélection of interesting video passages,
- *acquisition of the video on the hard drive: either directly starting from DVD (in this case there one needs the “ripper”), or by digitalization using a chart of video acquisition, or in the form of Fansub S or raw S.
- Réalisation and assembly:
- *éventuellement, preparation of special effects (Rotoscopie, drawings additional, Final improvement of image, etc),
- *découpage and Assembly (being able to introduce more or less complex video effects).
- Encoding:
- video *compression to obtain the best possible compromise enters the size of the file and its quality.
- Distribution:
- *mise at disposal of work to the public (transfer on a data-processing waiter), inscription of the AMV on the Web sites specialized, publicity on the forums.
Tools
Among the software tools most used by the creators of AMV, one finds in particular Premiere, After Effects, VirtualDub, AviSynth, Sony Vegas, Final Cut Pro, Windows Movie Maker.
Categorization
If the majority of the AMV are carried out by only one person, some are known as collaboratifs or projects multi-creators . In this case, a team sets up itself to carry out a work of greater scale, than it is by its duration or its complexity.
In margin of the kind, one notices in particular the AMV of the trailer type, which use as bandage that of a film trailer (should then be synchronized the sound effects), and the AMV of the video game type, which use images resulting from sequences kinematics drawn from video games, even directly the images of the plays.
Contest
Many contests of creation of AMV are organized each year, generally at the time of conventions related to the Japanese culture. Certain Internet sites of communities of creators of AMV organize also their own contests.
In addition to the contests “traditional” (work to be returned before a deadline, with or unconstrained, with or without obligation of exclusiveness, according to the contests), one can mention the contests of the type “Iron Chef” (where a small number of creators must each one create in twenty-four hours a AMV on an imposed music) as well as the tournaments (from which the participants are eliminated by successive matches). Jurys are made up in order to evaluate works.
