Animals

Animals is the tenth album of the group Pink Floyd, left in full wave Punk in 1977.

Context

The punk movement precisely took in influenza groups as Pink Floyd which had gone very far in the complexity of their composition: the punks thought indeed that the rock'n'roll was to be a means of expression usable by all, and not only with the range of people having studied the music with the academy technically (what was not besides the case of any members of the group).

The album was thus made up so as to surprise the listener. Indeed, after a Wish You Were Young stag planing, ultra-progressive, smooth and without rupture, the group (Roger Toilets in particular) continues with this opus in a style much more aggressive, cold and without ornaments… Aggressiveness which characterizes good number of punk groups.

Inspired by the Farm of the animals of George Orwell writes in 1945, the disc takes again the broad outlines of the novel: cynicism, aggressiveness, the criticism of the man by using animal prototypes. Humanity is thus divided into three castes who give their titles to the pieces: Pigs , the pigs which bathe in the lust and the idleness, Dogs , the dogs which seek the profit, which exert the control of the masses with an aggressiveness worthy of the S, and Sheep , the sheep which follows submissively, as plugged and impotent.

The music very rock'n'roll shows a David Gilmour imposing his fronts of guitar and a play very inspired, of a blazing beauty. On Dogs in particular, David Gilmour fabric his style by basing its composition on 4 lines of guitar instead of both which it usually uses. It uses a talk box on Pigs .

In the beginning, for the small pocket, Storm Thogerson projects to represent the “jungle psychotic of childhood” through a first model representing a young small child discovering his parents in full coitus. Then he proposes a duck nailed on a wall. But it is finally Waters which subjects the final concept of the small pocket. This one represents an industrial whole in the middle of London (the Battersea Power Station), with the top of which fleet an airship in form of pig especially manufactured for the occasion by industries Zeppelin. The symbolic system wants that top of the sky, the pig observes the “wanderings and the decline of the company”.
